Did you know that EITC recipients may experience a delay in refunds during this upcoming tax season? Last December, Congress made permanent critical improvements to the low-income Child Tax Credit and the EITC that had been set to expire in 2017. The PATH Act also includes a lesser-known provision that will delay refunds for taxpayers claiming the EITC or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until February 15, 2017. In consultation with the IRS, Intuit Financial Freedom Foundation has been working with the Center for Financial Services Innovation – along with national thought partners including the Taxpayer Opportunity Network – to develop strategic messaging for the field. The draft messaging is being tested in local communities this month and will likely be finalized by the end of October. Stay tuned for an announcement of a field-wide webinar to share the messaging and additional resources.
